WILKES-BARRE - Patrick Rushton will leave the city Police Department Dec. 7
after 20 years on the job. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 ``It's a decision I just made this week,'' said Rushton, who will retire as
captain. Rushton said he will take a non-law enforcement job in the Wyoming
Valley, though he would not say where. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Rushton has worked most recently as the captain in charge of crime
prevention, training, and media relations. He came to the police department
after working as a reporter at the Times Leader and later at the Citizens'
Voice. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Rushton submitted his letter of resignation on Wednesday. Although his last
official day as a city employee will be Jan. 5, Rushton said his final day at
the police station is a week from today. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 ``It has been an honor and a pleasure to work under your leadership the
last six years,'' Rushton wrote in his resignation letter to Mayor Thomas
McGroarty. ``I will always be grateful to you for the opportunities and
support you gave, but most of all for your friendship.'' &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 McGroarty, in a prepared statement, said he would announce Rushton's
replacement this morning. Rushton said he did not know who his replacement is. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Rushton, 49, paused when asked why he was resigning. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 ``I'm moving on to other things,'' Rushton said. ``I'm starting my third
career.'' &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
