Hanover Township Board of Commissioners conducted a re-organization meeting
Jan. 7. The newly elected commissioners and tax collector were sworn into
office. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 District Justice Joseph A. Halesey administered the oath to Commissioners
John J. Sipper, Samuel A. Sorber and Robert E. Burns, and Mildred A. Luba, tax
collector before an audience of family and friends. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Sipper is starting his fourth consecutive term. Sorber previously served as
a commissioner and this is the first term for Burns. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Luba is beginning her fourth term as tax collector. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Sipper was elected cahirman and Richard C. Swoboda will serve as vice
chairman. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Fire department news &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Fire Chief Stanley J. Browski issued this report for December. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Township units responded to three structure fires, four brush fires, one
trash/dump fire, four vehicle fires and nine motor vehicle accidents. They
assisted the ambulance seven times, had four helicopter landings and one
carbon monoxide detector incident. They held two public service events, had
four smoke scares and five miscellane ous calls. They responded to five
structure false alarms and three miscellaneous false alarms. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The department conducted one training session, two inspections/code
enforcements and one investigation. Personnel provided more than 360 hours. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Totals for 2001 are: 37 structure fires, 70 brush fires, 18 trash/dump
fires, 34 vehicle fires, 168 motor vehicle accidents, 75 ambulance assists, 40
helicopter landings, seven carbon monoxide detectors, 13 water rescues, one
rescue, one bomb threat, 20 public service events, four hazardous materials
incidents, one emergency management incident, 15 gas emergencies, seven smoke
scares and 56 miscellaneous calls. There were 55 structure false alarms and 25
miscellaneous false alarms. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The department conducted 47 training sessions, four fire prevention
activities, one fire drill, 35 inspections/code enforcements and 14
investigations. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Breslau Fire Department &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Travis Temarantz, Web master of Breslau's Web gave us permission to print
those statistics. every department goes out on every call. Of the calls listed
above, the Breslau company responded to 29 structure fires, five brush fires,
six vehicle fires, five motor vehicle accidents, one bomb threat, seven
dump/tire fires, 30 helicopter landings, seven hazardous materials incidents,
four explosions, and 16 ambulance assists. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Rescue 5, a specially equipped truck, responded 165 times during the year,
and they had 13 water rescue calls. Breslau held 14 training sessions. The men
and women who make up the Fight'n 5th answered 340 calls. Personnel provided
4,607 hours. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The township fire department is made up of six companies. Two of them run
annual bazaars, Newtown and Breslau. Askam holds the annual antique auto show
at the high school. The others rely on donations to keep their engines and
trucks on the road. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 A quick fact: One hose can cost hundreds of dollars. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The department is made up of mostly volunteer personnel, only nine men are
paid, including the chief. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Preston Hose Co. No. 3 will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday. Dues may be paid at this
time. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

meeting to discuss crime prevention. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 Feb. 11, 7 p.m., board of commissioners meeting; work session at 6:30 p.m. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
