TRIPLE-A BASEBALL 
Normally, there aren't too many bargains available on the minor league free
agent market this late in the offseason. However, the Red Barons may have
landed a hidden gem in outfielder Jeff Inglin. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The 27-year-old Inglin recently signed with the Phillies after spending
seven years in the Chicago White Sox organization. That's where he met Steve
Noworyta, who convinced him to join up with Philadelphia. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ``Jeff's an aggressive type player that you'll love to watch play,'' said
Noworyta, Philadelphia's Director of Minor League Operations. ``He's a `get
your uniform dirty' type of guy who hustles on everything he does. Other
players thrive on things like that.'' &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Inglin has 108 career home runs and 480 RBI at the minor league level. His
best season was in 1998 at Double-A Birmingham, when he hit 24 home runs and
had 100 RBI. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 ``He's not a home run hitting type of guy,'' Noworyta said. ``He's a
line-drive hitter. He plays both corners of the outfield, and can spell you in
center field if needed.'' &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Inglin began the 2002 season at Triple-A Charlotte, where he hit .276 with
six home runs in 39 games. He spent the second half of the season in Korea.
where he batted .290 with eight home runs. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 ``A lot of (baseball) people didn't realize that Jeff was out there on the
free agent market because he went to Korea,'' Noworyta said. ``It's nice to
get a player of his caliber this late.'' &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Noworyta said Inglin is expected to begin the 2003 season at
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and could possibly spend some time at Double-A Reading
if an emergency occurs at that level. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Inglin said he signed with the Phillies because of his friendship with
Noworyta, who was formerly an executive with the White Sox. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 ``Steve's a good guy,'' Inglin said in a telephone interview from his home
in Las Vegas. ``He convinced me that I would have an opportunity to play,
which wasn't the case with the White Sox.'' &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 His playing time dropped off sharply the last three seasons at Charlotte,
said Inglin, who is a career minor leaguer. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 ``I had some good years with them (White Sox), but I don't think it would
have made any difference if I had hit .400,'' Inglin said. ``The big league
club was deep in the outfield. I don't think I even had a chance of making the
team.'' &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Inglin, an All-American at USC, was selected by the White Sox in the 16th
round of the 1996 draft. He expects to see a lot of playing time at
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 ``I'm just hoping for a fresh start,'' Inglin said. ``I bring a good bat
and play some solid outfield. I'm capable of hitting a lot of home runs and
posting a good batting average.'' &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Inglin said he's not very familiar with the Red Barons. ``I played against
them when I was with Charlotte, and it seemed like they have a strong team.'' &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The Phillies also signed outfielder Juan Camilo, who split the 2002 season
between Double-A Erie and Single-A Lakeland. Camilo, 26, is expected to
contend for a spot on the Reading roster, according to Noworyta. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Philadelphia is still seeking to sign a free agent to replace Red Barons
center fielder Marlon Byrd, who's now with the Phillies. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 ``That's a hole that still needs to be filled,'' Noworyta said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 RED BARONS NOTES: Phillies General Manager Ed Wade announced Monday that
Red Barons slugger Chase Utley will move back to second base this season. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Utley played third base last year. However, with Philadelphia's signing of
free agent third baseman David Bell, it appears that Utley's future with the
Phillies is as a second baseman. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
