Fritsky will be providing a presentation on the ecology of bats and northern flying squirrels. He&#8217;ll discuss white nose syndrome and other challenges that these species face, what PGC has been doing to conserve them, and what individuals like us can do to help. He&#8217;ll provide info on bat box construction, placement, and habitat management. For more information, visit grwyovalas.org.The Western Pocono Chapter of Trout Unlimited will sponsor a special program at Nescopeck State Park on Tuesday, April 21 at 7 p.m. The program title: &#8220;The Poconos of Pa. - Cradle of American Trout Fishing&#8221;. Renowned Pocono trout fisherman, author, and artist Don Baylor, will provide a slide presentation on the notable and historic anglers, destinations, and literature of the Poconos during the 1800&#8217;s and early 1900&#8217;s and their importance to the development of fly fishing in America. Evidence exists that the Poconos were at least as important as the Catskills regarding the origins and evolution of trout fishing in this country. Many celebrities, presidents and fishing writers visited legendary hotels like the Henryville House and added to the sport&#8217;s lore. As a kickoff to the 2015 trout fishing season Don will highlight the rich fly fishing heritage that began and developed in our own back yard. The program is free. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the event is open to the public. The evenings program will be &#8220;Close Encounters with Birds of Prey.&#8221;Bill Streeter, Director of the Delaware Valley Raptor Center, a birds of prey rehabilitation facility in Milford, PA will present this program on the natural history and conservation status of birds of prey that are native to Pennsylvania. Bill will be assisted in his presentation by five live raptors &#8212; a hawk, a falcon, two owls, and an eagle.Cost is $35 per person and a buffet style dinner and dessert buffet is included.
