First Posted: 4/25/2013 SWOYERSVILLE &#8212; A man accused of selling bogus bars of gold and silver coins was arraigned Thursday by District Judge David Barilla.
David E. Steele, 41, of Charles Street, Luzerne, was charged by Luzerne police with two counts of theft and one count each of resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on $3,000 unsecured bail.
Police allege Steele sold fake bars of gold and silver coins to two men, receiving $12,655 from January to April 11.
When police served a search warrant at his residence on April 12, Steele was found hiding in a large cabinet with 15 heroin packets, according to the criminal complaint.
EDWARDSVILLE &#8212; A man was arraigned Thursday on charges he assaulted his hearing-impaired mother.
David Clint Geasey, 28, of Plymouth Street, Edwardsville, was charged with simple assault and harassment. He was jailed at the county prison for lack of $2,500 bail.
Police allege Geasey assaulted his mother Thursday inside their house on Plymouth Street, according to the criminal complaint.
PITTSTON &#8212; A man was arraigned Thursday on charges he stole a snow thrower from a garage on Lambert Street and tried to sell it to his cousin for $50 before returning it to its owner.
Jeremiah Deiter, 30, of Marlborough Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, was charged with burglary, criminal trespass and theft. He was jailed at the county prison for lack of $7,500 bail.
HAZLETON &#8212; Pedro Robles, 35, of West Hazleton, reported that his money, wallet and jewelry were stolen during a robbery by three men in the area of 15th and Church streets at about 10 a.m. Thursday.
BUTLER TWP. &#8212; Township police said two laptop computers were stolen during a burglary at a residence on Four Seasons Drive in Beech Mountain Lakes between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday.
