I attended the Wyoming Area school board meeting on Jan. 11 and I witnessed
politics at its worst. Board President Bobby Orlando was questioned about the
appointment of a supervisor of building and grounds and an acting assistant
superintendent as the construction liaisons to the board, bypassing the
superintendent of schools. He was asked why he chose these two individuals and
his reply was, "It's a done deal." Also, when asked if any criteria were used
in making this selection, Mr. Orlando's reply was a very curt, "No." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 It makes one wonder what is going on with this $20 million construction
project. Led by President Orlando, the majority members of the board
handpicked the architect, the building and grounds supervisor, and the acting
assistant superintendent without advertising or interviewing for these
positions. Are these the "fair hiring practices" that Orlando and company
promised as part of their last political campaign? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The fact is that Mr. Bernardi, superintendent of schools, has more
experience in school building programs and more knowledge of the educational
needs of the district than both of Mr. Orlando's appointed "Yes" men combined. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 When someone acts with this type of arrogance it is wise to question his
motives. I ask the residents of Wyoming Area, is this acting in the best
interest of the students and taxpayers of the district, or is this acting in
the best interests of Mr. Orlando's own political agenda? &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
