US sanctions 24 Chinese and Hong Kong officials

Four candidates face challenges of their nomination petitions to appear on the May 18 primary election ballot, according to Luzerne County officials.
				Tuesday was the deadline for petition challenges.
				According to county assistant Solicitor Michael Butera:
				&#8226; Amy Brady is contesting Pittston Area School District candidate Katherine M. Healey&rsquo;s petition to run on the Democratic ticket, arguing the affidavits of the petition circulators were not notarized. School board candidates typically cross-file, and Brady is not challenging Healey&rsquo;s petition to appear on the Republican ballot.
				&#8226; John Nilles is challenging Vianney Castro&rsquo;s petition to run as a Democrat for Hazleton City Council, alleging Castro resides in Hazle Township and is using a Hazleton business address.
				&#8226; Nilles also filed a challenge against Robert Yevak&rsquo;s petition to run on the Democratic ticket for Hazleton City Council, asserting Yevak failed to file a required statement of financial interest.
				&#8226; Diane Burke challenged Joshua Brandon Lee Mulligan&rsquo;s petition to run as a constable in Wilkes-Barre Ward 4. The details of that complaint were not immediately available.
				Hearings on these challenges will be held in the county Court of Common Pleas in the coming days, Butera said.
				Both sides must argue their cases before a judge, Butera said. The county election bureau will supply election record documentation as requested by the court and comply with the court&rsquo;s decision, he said.
