Kanjorski to join Bush at depot

One of three Wyoming Area School Board challengers who won seats Tuesday
said their victory is a signal from taxpayers that they don't want the $10
million Secondary Center expansion project the outgoing board approved. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Top vote getter John LaNunziata said the incoming members will take a close
look at scaling back the project that sparked much controversy and a lawsuit. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; LaNunziata, John Bolin and John Marianacci won seats Tuesday night. The
battle for the fourth seat was less certain. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 LaNunziata's count showed Jerry Wall beating incumbent Marilyn Gubbiotti
2,936 to 2,059 votes. A count by the Times Leader showed Gubbiotti with the
win 2,436 to 2,296. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Incumbent Dominick Aritz failed to win re-election. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 LaNunziata, who served on the school board between 1995 and 2003, was the
top vote getter on both tickets in the May primary. He said the challengers'
victories are also a sign that voters support Superintendent Ray Bernardi,
whom some current board members do not support. "The superintendent is doing a
great job," LaNunziata said. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Aritz said he was losing by 2 to 1 at about 9:15 p.m., when he conceded
defeat. Aritz said he hopes the expansion project will not be in danger with a
new board majority. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The challengers had opposed the Secondary Center expansion. "This is
because of the building project that we don't need," LaNunziata said. "The
people believe in what we said." &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The board had approved the secondary school expansion, part of a larger $20
million project, earlier this year. LaNunziata and board members Toni Valenti,
Jake Sobeski and Nick DeAngelo had filed a lawsuit in an unsuccessful attempt
to halt the project. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The challengers did not object to the other part of the building project
that calls for major renovations to the Tenth Street Elementary School. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Wall, Bolin, Marianacci and LaNunziata opposed the expansion. Incumbents
Gubbiotti and Aritz voted for the project and continue to support it.
Gubbiotti has said the district is doing the project "the right way for the
right reasons." Aritz said the new gym and 10 additional classrooms are
necessities, not luxuries. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 Bolin wanted funds borrowed for the project to be reallocated. He had
suggested halting the project and renovating schools that need it such as the
elementary schools. Contracts have already been awarded for the project.
Project manager representative Michael Karcutskie previously said that
changing the project is possible, but there would be penalties, fees and other
costs. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
