College-bound high school students have until Jan. 6 to register to take
the ACT exam on Feb. 11. Students missing the Jan. 6 postmark deadline can do
late registrations through Jan. 20 for an additional $18 fee per person.
Students can register at www.actstudent.org or by standard mail. Registration
materials are available from high school guidance counselors. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 NANTICOKE - Luzerne County Community College will offer courses during its
full summer session. Classes begin May 30 and end Aug. 7. Final exams will be
from Aug. 8 through 14. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The college also will offer courses during its two shorter summer sessions
(June 5 through July 6 with final exams July 10 and July 11 through Aug. 9
with final exams Aug. 10.) &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

 NANTICOKE - Luzerne County Community College offers more than 300
credit-free online classes through its continuing education division. Classes
begin each month on a variety of topics, including accounting, business
administration and management, computers, health care, sales and marketing,
writing and publishing and law and legal careers. The college is offering
several new credit-free online certificate programs, including medical coding
and billing, medical office assistant, medical transcriptionist, PC repair and

 EXETER - The newly formed Wyoming Area Cheerleading Alumni Association will
meet 1 p.m. Jan. 22 at the Wyoming Hose Co. on Fourth Street. Attendees are
asked to bring a list of people they know who were part of the Wyoming Area
cheerleading program. Elections for office will take place during a meeting at
a later date. Those who cannot attend the Jan. 22 meeting are asked to call
Ashlee Yurek at 430-8428 with their names, numbers, addresses and years of
graduation. Yurek, a senior at Wyoming Area High School, is forming the
association as part of her senior project. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 DALLAS TWP. - College Misericordia was awarded a $114,000 grant from the
Pennsylvania Department of Commerce and Economic Development to expand its
information technology security program to include Tunkhannock Area High
School. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The IT Security Education Program was launched last year in conjunction
with West Side Area Vocational-Technical School, Pringle, and Luzerne County
Community College, Nanticoke. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The program offers a comprehensive information technology security
curriculum for students beginning in their junior year at Tunkhannock Area
High School or West Side Area Vocational-Technical School, continuing through
a new associate's-degree program in cyber security at LCCC and culminating in
a bachelor's degree in information technology with an information technology
security specialization at College Misericordia. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 The pipeline courses began in 2004 and will be added to the Tunkhannock
Area High School curriculum in 2006. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 College Misericordia's Insalaco Center for Career Development provides
specially designed career-development services for sophomores at West Side
Area Vocational-Technical School prior to enrollment in the information
technology pipeline program and expects to do so at Tunkhannock Area High
School. Students entering College Misericordia will be eligible for the
college's Guaranteed Placement Program, a structured four-year program
culminating in career employment, graduate study or a guaranteed paid
internship. The Insalaco Center for Career Development also will spearhead
internship opportunities with local and regional companies. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 An information technology security camp will be offered for high school
freshmen and sophomores to gauge their interests in the field. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

the spring semester through its distance learning program. Courses scheduled
to be offered through the TeleCollege program include Art Appreciation,
History, Mass Communications, Music Appreciation, Nutrition, Office
Management, Personal Health, Spanish, Statistics, Philosophy, Ethics,
Geography, American Government, Psychology, Sociology, Speech and Women's
Studies. Online courses scheduled to be offered include Accounting, AS/400,
Business Law, Computer Information Systems, Economics, English, Management,
Math, Microcomputers, Algebra, Business, Database Analysis/Access, Human
Resource Management, The Internet, Keyboarding, Literature, Marketing, Medical
Terminology, Psychology, Sales, Sociology, Typing and Writing. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 
 LCCC will have registration for spring-semester classes from 9 a.m. to 7
p.m. Jan. 9 through 11 and from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 14 at the registrar's
office, building 5, at the college's campus in Nanticoke. Classes for the
spring distance-learning program will begin Jan. 17. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
