His first game will be coming some 13 months later than expected, but Doug Davis is still set to get his shot at managing the RailRiders.
				The parent New York Yankees made it official on Friday, naming Davis the manager for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for the 2021 season. He will be joined on staff by pitching coach Dustin Glant, hitting coach Casey Dykes and defensive coach Raul Dominguez.
				Davis, 58, a Bloomsburg native who went to Central Columbia High School, was first appointed RailRiders manager in January 2020 after serving as an assistant coach with the team for three years.
				Of course, he never got the opportunity. Less than two months later, the COVID-19 pandemic shut down sports, and all of minor league baseball was ultimately canceled for the year.
				When Davis was picked to replace Jay Bell as manager a year ago, his familiarity with the organization likely played a big role. That could prove to be just as important for this unique 2021 campaign.
				&ldquo;When I looked at it, I wanted the opportunity to interview for this job. I think the timing was right,&rdquo; Davis said when he was first promoted. &ldquo;I&rsquo;ve been here the past three years. I go back to the (former manager) Dave Miley years, where the chemistry and continuity plays a little part in it, as well.
				&ldquo;I think I&rsquo;m the right person for the job at this time.&rdquo;
				The 2021 Triple-A season is scheduled to return soon, albeit a month later than originally announced. Davis&rsquo; first game at the helm of the team is set for May 4 at Syracuse after Major League Baseball opted to delay the start from April to help mitigate a wide range of coronavirus issues.
				In the meantime, the RailRiders&rsquo; PNC Field will be used as the Yankees alternate training site for April, just as it was for all of the truncated 2020 MLB season.
				The 2021 opener will come in a familiar city for Davis and also serve as his 1,000th game as a manager across all levels, going 515-484 (.516). Syracuse was where he was previously a Triple-A manager in 2007 and 2008.
				Glant, 39, was previously named pitching coach for the former Staten Island Yankees in Single-A before last season was canceled.
				Dykes, 31, also joined the Yankees organization a year ago after several years in the NCAA ranks, most recently as Indiana&rsquo;s hitting coach.
				By contrast, Dominguez, 40, is entering his 14th season with the Yankees as a player and staffer.
				Also announced for the 2021 staff were franchise mainstay Darren London (athletic trainer), Larry Adegoke (strength & conditioning coach, Paul Henshaw (video manager), Shea Wingate (advance scouting analyst) and Mike Macciocco (clubhouse manager).
