First Posted: 5/9/2013 Janel McCormick, Dallas, sixth-grade reading teacher at Wyoming Seminary Lower School, was named a 2013 Apple Distinguished Educator. She is one of only 75 teachers across the nation to be honored. McCormick is one of approximately 2,000 educators worldwide who have received the honor in recognition of her passionate commitment to the use of educational technology to improve teaching and learning. She routinely incorporates the use of iPods, iPads and computers in her lesson plans and has presented her teaching strategies at several statewide educational technology conferences, including the annual Pennsylvania Education Technology Exposition and Conference, the largest educational technology conference in Pennsylvania.
Jenna Baron, daughter of John and Chris Miele Baron, Laflin, was a student honoree at the 37th annual Honors Convocation at the University of Pittsburgh. She was recognized for receiving the African Nationality Room Scholarship for study abroad. Baron spent the summer of 2012 studying in Kenya and Tanzania. She graduated on April 28 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in anthropology and certificates in African studies and global studies. She is a 2009 honor graduate from James M. Coughlin High School.
Christina Marvin, Kingston; Robert Moulton, Mountain Top; Daniel Migatulski, Wilkes-Barre; and Fizza Saeed, Conyngham, all King&#8217;s College students, recently participated in service projects through the Shoval Center for Community Engagement and Learning. As part of the Students Engaged in Reflective Volunteer Experiences (SERVE) trips, the students volunteered at projects in Pittsburgh and Clintwood, Va.
