Department of Health announces free COVID-19 testing site in Luzerne County

WILKES-BARRE &mdash; The Luzerne County District Attorney&rsquo;s Office has released additional information about a joint drug trafficking operation that resulted in two arrests last week.
				Clinton Cole, 59, and Michael Jones, 40, both of Wilkes-Barre, were arrested on March 14 after their vehicle was stopped by troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police near Exit #1 on State Route 115.
				A search of the vehicle conducted after a warrant was obtained turned up 314 grams of crack cocaine, 69 grams of fentanyl, five grams of synthetic marijuana and 13 bottles of xylazine, a tranquilizer commonly used to lace certain controlled substances such as heroin or fentanyl.
				&ldquo;Philadelphia statistics have shown an increase in the appearance of xylazine in unintentional heroin or fentanyl deaths accounting for approximately thirty-one (31%) percent of cases in 2019,&rdquo; said Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis in a press release issued on Monday.
				&ldquo;Its use in lacing controlled substances has unfortunately reached Luzerne County, and we are actively working to investigate and prosecute traffickers poisoning our community with these substances.&rdquo;
				As a result of the arrest and subsequent investigation, additional search warrants were served at other residences in Wilkes-Barre.
				These warrants led investigators to an additional 250 grams of fentanyl, 377 grams of crack cocaine, 24 grams of methamphetamines, 103 pills, 16 bottles of xylazine, a stolen handgun and over $20,000 in U.S. currency.
				The money was determined by investigators to be proceeds from drug trafficking.
				The PSP Vice Unit, Wilkes-Barre Police Anti-Crime Unit, FBI Safe Streets Task Force and Luzerne County Drug Task Force assisted in the investigation, which remains ongoing.
				Both suspects are currently incarcerated at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility, with Cole being unable to post $50,000 in bail and Jones being denied bail outright.
				A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday morning.
