Allied Services Integrated Health System welcomed a small group of community partners, staff, leadership, and representatives of the religious community to its newest inpatient Hospice Center in Wilkes-Barre. Allied Services Hospice Center Wilkes-Barre adds to the continuum of care provided by the non-profit for more than 60 years. Allied Services currently provides quality hospice and palliative care to patients in their own homes and at their other inpatient center on the Morgan Highway in Scranton.
				Allied Services hosted a small ribbon-cutting ceremony on Feb. 24 at the Hospice Center located at 200 Meade Street in Wilkes-Barre.
				&ldquo;We are fortunate to be able to expand access to these vital services as a response to our community&rsquo;s needs where thousands of Allied Services dedicated employees live and work,&rdquo; said Robert Cole, PhD, Senior Vice President and Chief Analytics Officer, Allied Services.
				&ldquo;We know that there is a growing need for this kind of specialized care among our aging community. Thankful that we were able to transform this former convent into a peaceful, new hospice center, and grateful for our experienced team of hospice and palliative professionals who are completely dedicated to providing compassionate, all-encompassing care during this stage of life.&rdquo;
				Mirrored after its sister center in Scranton, every detail of the construction has been designed with the comfort of patients and their family members in mind. Offering eight private patient rooms, the inpatient Hospice Center blends the comforts of home with the highest level of compassionate end-of-life care.
				The goal is to enhance patients&rsquo; comfort, support quality of life, and relieve suffering in an atmosphere of respect and dignity.
				&ldquo;We are honored to be able to offer this level of care in Luzerne County. This new inpatient setting will allow us to give patients and families in these surrounding communities more choice and ultimately more comfort,&rdquo; said Laura Marion, RN, BSN, Assistant Vice President of Allied Services Hospice and Palliative Care.
				Inpatient hospice care offers 24-hour medical care and emotional support for patients and their families. The level and type of care provided in this setting are specially designed for patients who need assistance in managing acute pain and other symptoms caused by their illness. Inpatient care is available at Allied Services Hospice Center in Scranton and Allied Services Hospice Center in Wilkes-Barre.
				Allied Service Hospice & Palliative Care currently provides home-based care to patients in several counties. However the new hospice center in Luzerne County will be the county&rsquo;s only stand-alone facility of its kind. Since 2015, the Hospice and Palliative Care teams at Allied Services have served more than 2,000 families throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania.
