Wilkes University joins the list of ‘Guard-Friendly Schools’

Yesenia Rodriguez and Ive Eufracio-Childs have teamed up under the slogan Excellent Education for ALL HASD Students in their run for the Hazleton Area School Board in the Primary election. The two have cross-filed and will appear on both the Democratic and Republican tickets.
				In a media release they said their goals include &ldquo;increased access to technology, expanded counseling services, and busing as needed; Better Funding Options, such as expanded grant writing for better education and lower taxes and no more tax breaks for big companies; and transparency.&rdquo;
				With an email address of momsforhasd@gmail.com, it should be no surprise they tout their service to community while taking care of their own families.
				&ldquo;Yesenia and her husband have been foster parents since 2013 and have three children currently enrolled in the Hazleton Area School District,&rdquo; the release notes. &ldquo;Rodriguez worked with the census in 2020 and opened Kiki&rsquo;s Bakery in West Hazleton earlier this year. She is on the board of Luzerne County Community College Hazleton Center&rsquo;s Advisory Board and a member of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce.&rdquo;
				&ldquo;As a mother of three active students in the school district, I am concerned about their future and that of their classmates, it is time for the problems to be solved to be seen through the eyes of someone who lives them day by day,&rdquo; Rodriguez said in the release.
				Ive volunteer-teaches citizenship classes through the Hazleton Integration Project (HIP) center, teaches Spanish at Immanuel Christian School, and is in planning to open a childcare center. For the last decade, Eufracio-Childs has volunteered at HIP, the Society of Hispanic Professionals of Hazleton, the Downtown Hazleton Alliance for Progress Board, Hazleton Rotary, and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission. Concerned Parents of Hazleton Area picked her for the 2019 Humanitarian Award presented by the Concerned Parents of Hazleton Area.
				&ldquo;If you want a better society, you need to start with our children,&rdquo; Eufracio-Childs said.
