WILKES-BARRE &mdash; A new round of job cuts has hit Wilkes University.
				In official statement responding to a request about layoff rumors, the university noted &ldquo;After a lengthy review of our University structure, Wilkes eliminated 15 staff positions of which 10 positions are currently vacant. In addition, four staff members accepted new roles on campus. 
				&ldquo;These are tough decisions, but they ensure a sound financial future in which Wilkes can flourish. We do not anticipate additional University-wide staff or faculty reductions at this time.&rdquo;
				Following a trend that became nationally widespread after the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March of 2020, area colleges and universities announced layoffs and other cost-cutting moves in the spring of 2020. Wilkes notified non-tenured faculty that the 2020-21 year would be there last, salary reductions were enacted, and capitol projects were put on hold.
