Drug sweep in Hazleton expands

A daughter and her mother escaped without injury after a fire erupted in the basement of their home at 818 Rutter Ave. early Wednesday morning, Fire Chief Frank Guido said. Guido said firefighters responded just after 4:30 a.m. and quickly extinguished a fire in the basement. Smoke alarms alerted the mother and daughter, Guido said. The Kingston Fire Department and state police deputy fire marshal Trooper Ron Jarocha are investigating the cause of the fire.
