Chinese regulators blame computer for stock frenzy

First Posted: 8/28/2013 (AP) The stock market is edging higher as investors wait for news on the standoff with Syria.
The Dow Jones industrial average was up 60 points, or 0.4 percent, at 14,837 as of noon EDT Wednesday.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index gained eight points, or 0.5 percent, to 1,638. The Nasdaq composite rose 20 points, or 0.6 percent, to 3,599.
The price of oil edged down from $112 a barrel overnight and was trading at $110 a barrel, up 1 percent from a day earlier.
Energy companies were among the biggest gainers on the S&P 500.
The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.77 percent from 2.71 percent the day before.
