Suspect wanted by Hanover Township police jailed in Illinois

Rain and some sporadic snow forced the postponement of most Wyoming Valley Conference sporting events on Wednesday.

Also, Tunkhannock announced on its website that all sports and extracurricular activities are postponed until at least Monday because of COVID-19 situations. A statement issued Tuesday said there are four positive COVID-19 cases and three probable ones at the high school and possibly two more in the seventh grade.

Tunkhannock’s temporary shutdown affected nine high school sporting events scheduled Thursday through Saturday.

As for the baseball postponements, Dallas at Crestwood will be Thursday and Berwick at Hazleton Area will be Saturday with a noon start.

In softball, Holy Redeemer at Nanticoke Area will be Monday while Wyoming Seminary at Hanover Area hasn’t been rescheduled. Also, the Sugar Valley Rural at Northwest game has been moved to April 29.

In boys lacrosse, Lakeland at Scranton Prep is now April 29 and Lake-Lehman at Abington Heights is May 1. The Wyoming Area at Holy Redeemer girls lacrosse game hasn’t been rescheduled.

Two track meets — Crestwood at Dallas and Holy Redeemer at Wyoming Area — were scratched with no make-up dates available.

Two boys tennis matches — Wyoming Area at Crestwood and Wilkes-Barre Area at Hazleton Area — were postponed and haven’t been rescheduled.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Wilkes-Barre Area 3, Lake-Lehman 0

The Wolfpack swept Lake-Lehman 25-23, 25-23, 25-18.

Michael Deutsch-Jones and Nick Wartella had 10 service points each for WBA. Joaquin Prado had 10 assists.

Eric Hanley (10 service points), Joe Shiskowski (8 kills), Jason Kuhar (8 digs), Jake Eury (8 digs) and Mike Barton (8 assists) led Lehman.

Holy Redeemer 3, Hanover Area 0

The Royals handled Hanover Area 25-7, 25-7, 25-11.

Dave Durko (9 service points), Daniel Drost (2 service points), Anthony Strish (1 kill, 2 service points), Zev Kornfeld (1 kill, 1 dig) and Peter Khoudary (1 kill, 1 dig) led Redeemer.

Dallas 3, Nanticoke Area 0

The Mountaineers won by scores of 25-19, 25-13, 25-18.

David Cooper led Dallas with 16 kills, seven digs and five aces. Angelo Zarola had 16 assists. Colby Zern had five blocks and five digs.

Matt Golemko had nine digs and six kills for Nanticoke Area. Nick Hornlein had five kills, five digs and five service points. John Hornlein had five assists and five service points.

BOYS LACROSSE

Delaware Valley 22, Holy Redeemer 0

Nate Melnick scored five goals while Xander Kelly, Paulie Weinrich and Owen Kelly all had hat tricks for Delaware Valley.

MEN’S LACROSSE

Wilkes 11, Lebanon Valley 10

Nico Lorenzo found the back of the net five times, including with just over five minutes remaining in the game that proved to be the game-winner as Wilkes defeated Lebanon Valley.
