BUTLER TWP. &mdash; Two people were arrested Sunday when police allegedly discovered a large amount of fentanyl, marijuana and packaging materials during a traffic stop on Route 309.
				Police from Butler Township and Hazleton and state police were involved in a traffic enforcement blitz when they stopped a Chevrolet allegedly driven by Omar Alexis Vargas, 30, of Hazleton.
				Officers detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
				Police said Vargas was operating the vehicle that did not have an ignition interlock system as he is required to have the system installed on any vehicles he operates.
				As a result of the investigation, search warrants were served on the vehicle that allegedly turned up 101 grams of fentanyl, vials of marijuana, a sealed package of marijuana, a small amount of THC resin, and empty vials and packaging materials, police said.
				Police said the amount of fentanyl allegedly found inside the vehicle is equal to 3,000 individual doses.
				Vargas was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal conspiracy with intent to deliver a controlled substance and four traffic citations.
				A passenger in the vehicle, Justine Ann Thomas, 30, of Hazleton, was charged with two counts each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance, and one count each of criminal conspiracy with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
				Vargas and Thomas were arraigned by District Judge Matthew C. Christopher in Shickshinny. Vargas was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $200,000 bail, and Thomas was released after posting $25,000 bail.
				Court records say Vargas was arrested by Hazleton police earlier this year on drug trafficking offenses. He was free on $50,000 bail related to his Jan. 4 arrest.
