Levee fee enough support for the River Common
Of all the requests I ever have received, the recent one asking for contributions to support the River Common project has to be the biggest slap in the face to those of us who are charged to maintain the river levee, of which the River Common is a part.
What gall it takes to ask us to pay more to become a patron (Bronze, Silver, Gold), Heritage, Founders or Legacy Society member of this group. Donations range up to $2,500 to be a Legacy Society Member.
Sure, I will send you my check! Just as soon as the cow jumps over the ... well, you get my meaning.
Once the home rule council begins its work, let&rsquo;s hope the levee fee will be abolished. Then maybe support for the River Common group will merit consideration. Until then, hold your breath!
Absence of guards makes crosswalk a grave danger
 The Luzerne County commissioners decided to save money by not staffing the crossing guard security shack on River Street, Wilkes-Barre.
It didn&rsquo;t take a Mensa candidate to realize that, as a result of this action, tragedy might soon strike. I wonder how much the insurance deductible is for the lawsuit that will undoubtedly follow? That&rsquo;s also not to mention the toll it will take on the life of attorney Jan Lokuta.

We&rsquo;ve heard a lot in the news lately about the actions of the characters from the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan. These misguided folks might be sincere in their belief system, but they exhibit &ldquo;zeal without knowledge.&rdquo; 
Their behavior and methodology are in no way indicative or representative of Fundamental Baptists. I have met many fine Christians in Fundamental Baptist churches: people who love the Lord, who love the Bible, who love their children, who bring up their children in the &ldquo;nurture and admonition of the Lord.&rdquo;
Many fine Fundamental Baptists wholeheartedly care about the conversion of lost souls. The sound biblical principle is to &ldquo;love the sinner, but hate the sin.&rdquo;
