SCRANTON &#8211; The city is preparing to celebrate 150 years of history and progress in 2016. The sesquicentennial celebration begins with an inaugural event at the Mall at Steamtown on Saturday, April 25. Steamtown National Historic Site will partner with event planner, Scranton Tomorrow, to provide a special excursion train from several Lackawanna County boroughs to the kickoff event in Scranton.The &#8220;Scranton Sesquicentennial Special&#8221; will depart from Jessup&#8217;s Station Park at 11 a.m., from Olyphant&#8217;s Queen City Station at 11:30 a.m., and from Dickson City Station near Boulevard Avenue at 11:50 a.m. Excursion fares are $24 for adults 16 to 61, $22 for seniors 62 and older, and $17 for children ages 6-15, and include the Park&#8217;s daily Entrance Fee. Children age 5 and younger accompanied by an adult require a &#8220;no-charge&#8221; ticket. The train will depart at 3 p.m. from the Steamtown NHS Boarding Platform for the return trip to those Mid Valley communities.For ticket reservations, call 570-340-5204.Excursion fares include the park&#8217;s entrance fee for access to the park&#8217;s museum complex and all scheduled tours or programs. Additionally, the &#8220;Scranton Limited&#8221; short train rides through the park will be available, $5 per person, all ages 6 and older. The celebration at the Mall includes food vendors, music and festivities.
