First Posted: 2/11/2014 WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A Hazle Township woman will serve two years&#8217; probation on child-endangerment charges following a Luzerne County Children and Youth Services investigation into allegations she left her two small children home alone overnight while she went to work.
Claribel Moreno Soriano, 28, was sentenced by county Judge Fred Pierantoni.
According to court papers, officials were contacted in May by a witness who said that Soriano would leave the children, who were about 5 and 2, upstairs with a television on while she was gone overnight. Police said they visited the apartment on May 7 and found the boys sleeping on their mother&#8217;s bed with no adult present.
State police said they interviewed Soriano, who admitted leaving the children home alone while working from 9 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays.
The children were taken into custody.
Court records show Soriano in November agreed to plead guilty to one count of endangering the welfare of children.
Soriano is required to complete parenting classes, cooperate with Children and Youth Services and may have no contact with the children until otherwise ordered by the court. She also must serve 15 hours of community service.
