Harveys Lake adopts property maintenance code

HARVEYS LAKE &#8212; The Borough Council adopted the International Property Maintenance Code at its most recent meeting.The ordinance establishes minimum maintenance standards for basic equipment, lighting, ventilation, heating, sanitation and safety. Prior to the council meeting, a special meeting was held to gain public input and comment on the ordinance.Councilwoman Michell&#8217;e Boice announced that the borough has an ordinance prohibiting fertilizer containing phosphorus. Councilman Daniel Blaine said that newsletters will be sent out this week to residents reminding them that the use of phosphorus in lawn materials, such as fertilizer, affects the health of the lake and degrades the quality of drinking water. Residents are asked to check the fertilizer bag for a set of three numbers. The middle number should be a &#8220;zero&#8221; representing zero amount of phosphorus in the product.The Harveys Lake Borough Cleanup Day will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on April 26. The meeting location will be held at the Harveys Lake Beach Club. To register, call Megan Sgarlat Prynn at (570) 814-9230. Pizza will be provided compliments of Grotto Pizza.The Harveys Lake 2016 calendars are available at the borough building. The cost per calendar is $15.The Harveys Lake Recreation Committee will host a dinner dance at Jonathan&#8217;s Restaurant on May 2. Tickets are $30 per person. The council donated a check for $500 to the library.The next meeting of the Harveys Lake Council will be at 7:30 p.m. on May 18.
