Bowl-4-Tay set to aid young cancer patient

Trojans are making a case to contend next year

First Posted: 1/1/2014 PLAINS TWP. &#8212; She was late and he was early when the first newborns of the year arrived Wednesday morning at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
Jazetta Teeple came first at 12:12 a.m. and Cody Walker followed at 12:28 a.m.
They were among the five babies born at the hospital by early afternoon. The total was expected to increase as more women were in labor.
Stephanie Teeple said her daughter was due Dec. 26, a day after stepfather Barry Matthews&#8217; birthday.
Teeple, 27, of Scranton, declined to provide information on the child&#8217;s father.
While Matthews visited, Teeple rested in her bed with her baby quietly lying at her feet after a feeding around 1:30 p.m.
&#8220;She was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed all night,&#8221; said Teeple.
Jazetta weighed 5 pounds, 14.6 ounces. She was Teeple&#8217;s fourth child. Teeple has two boys and another girl.
Across the hallway, Aquillah Walker held her sleeping son.
She beamed about his birth.
&#8220;He was the first baby boy to be born this year,&#8221; Walker said.
Cody&#8217;s due date was Jan. 30. He weighed 5 pounds, 15 ounces.
Walker said she had been in labor since arriving at the hospital at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
She showed a photo on her cellphone of her daughter Chloe, who turns 2 in May.
&#8220;She hasn&#8217;t met her baby brother yet,&#8221; Walker said.
The newborn child&#8217;s father was from New Jersey and did not accompany Walker to the hospital. The 24-year-old home health aide said she moved to Wilkes-Barre from New Jersey three years ago.
The births at Geisinger preceded those at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton.
Jim McGuire, a spokesman for Commonwealth Health the regional health system that includes the hospitals, said a boy was born at 3:28 a.m. at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Two sets of twins were delivered at Moses Taylor. The first set, a girl and boy, arrived at 3:34 a.m. and 3:35 a.m. respectively. The second set, two girls, arrived at 5:28 a.m. and 5:30 a.m.
