Abington Council of Governments talks audit, plans first responders event

Wilkes-Barre council to again consider University of Scranton refinancing project

CLARKS GREEN &#8212; A $170 difference between the checking account statement and check book balances for the Abington Council of Governments (ACOG) was noted in the audit for 2014, conducted by David Jones, of Clarks Summit. The announcement was made during the treasury report at the council&#8217;s June 4 meeting.The report shows a checking account balance per the Dec. 31, 2013 statement of $2,994.88 and a check book balance as of that date at $2,824.88.Jones, whose written report clarified he is not a CPA or trained auditor, but a private citizen who was asked to complete the service, gave two recommendations in the audit. One called for the reconciliation of the difference.ACOG Treasurer Chuck Wrobel said the account was balanced out to zero when he turned the books over for auditing, and he will look into the matter before the next meeting.&#8220;I will go over that and have a report back to reconcile the difference here, whatever that may be,&#8221; he said.Jones&#8217; second recommendation read, &#8220;Items other than normal monthly expenditures should be listed with exact dollar amounts in the minutes.&#8221;The balance of the ACOG checking account as of the June 4 meeting is $2,384.18.In other business, brief municipal reports were given and the council discussed plans for an emergency first responders appreciation event, open to the public, tentatively scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 10 at South Abington Park. The ACOG does not meet formally during the months of July and August, but plans to make additional information regarding the event available to the public when details are official.The next regularly scheduled meeting is 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3.
