King’s, Wilkes in the hunt for golf title

WILKES-BARRE &#8212; It took 17 days to finish, but Meyers got the job done.The Mohawks baseball team completed a game that was suspended on April 8 due to darkness, scoring three runs in the top of the 10th before holding off a GAR rally to win 17-16 on Saturday at Gibby Field.Meyers (4-4 WVC) followed that up by again shutting the door on the Grenadiers in the final inning, picking up a 9-8 win to earn the season sweep of the city rivals.GAR (1-8) had originally forced extra innings two weeks ago by scoring three times in the bottom of the seventh to make it 14-14. The Grenadiers nearly tied it again in the bottom of the 10th on Saturday.The star of the series was Meyers&#8217; Ryan Gilgallon, who finished the two games 6-for-6 from the plate with three doubles and five RBI while also picking up the win on the mound in both games &#8212; as a reliever in the first and a starter in the second.Meyers&#8217; Colin Pasone was 6-for-10 with six RBI while getting the save in the second game. GAR&#8217;s Greg Skrepenak was 5-for-9 with a double and three RBI for GAR in the series.Hanover Area 6, Nanticoke 5Mike Piscotty was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two pitchers combined on a five-hitter as the Hawkeyes (6-2) edged Nanticoke (4-5).Starter Kyle Kowalski picked up the win while picking up a double and an RBI at the plate. Dave Cook pitched the final two innings for the save.Mitch Romanowski and Kris Rynkiewicz both had a single and an RBI for Nanticoke.BOYS TENNISTunkhannock 3, Berwick 2Alek Greenip and Justin Phillips rallied from a set down at No. 2 doubles to help the Tigers pull out a tight win.
