20 years ago - 1995The Harveys Lake Women&#8217;s Club recently honored Lake-Lehman High School&#8217;s top seniors at a special gathering. Honored were Amanda Warner, Jess Noon, Tina Sidonio, Jennifer Feehan, Jonathan Dale, Peter Malak, Sherry Clark, Joel Toluba, Tim Brislin, Chris Pagoda and Shannon Kelly.Students of the American Literature Field Studies Association of the Dallas High School are making final plans for travels to historic sites to New England later this month. Sites and artifacts pictured in the American Literature text book generated the focus for the students&#8217; interest in visiting the museums and exploring the historic sites. Participants include Keri Bachman, Gail Culver, Melissa Hettes, Rodney Wilhelm, Amy Hilstolsky, Kyle Baker, Michael Metz, Jessica Husband, Miriam Thomas, John Tomedi, Lisa Dorrance, Nicole Mazurek, Erica Lamoreaux and Laura Uzdilla.30 years ago - 1985It was sure a night to remember for Linda King and her escort Phil Brown as Ms. King was crowned 1985 Prom Queen during the Dallas High School Junior/Senior Prom Friday evening. Ms. King was crowned by last year&#8217;s Prom Queen by Judy Fitch during ceremonies at Gus Genetti&#8217;s in Wilkes-Barre. This year&#8217;s Dallas prom was titled, &#8220;One More Night.&#8221;The Back Mountain Memorial Library and The Dallas Post are pleased to announce the three first-place winners in its jointly-sponsored photography contest. The contest, surrounded by the theme, &#8220;A Nation of Readers,&#8221; invited area amateur photographers dealing with reading in America. The three winners are Carol M. King, Dallas, first in the Adult Color category; Rhonda Bartorillo, Shavertown, first place in the Black and White category; and Kris Ertley, Dallas, first place in the Student Black and White category.Four-year-old Brock Raspen was as proud as a peacock as his horse, &#8220;Sweet Sally&#8221; won first and second place ribbons in the 4-H Show Sunday at the Lehman Horse Show Grounds. Brock and Sally were awarded a first place for lead line and a second lace for walk and trot.40 years ago - 1975Harold and Dorothy Shelly of Shavertown are sponsoring a bus trip to &#8220;Gateway to the Stars&#8221; Bible Conference in Cape Canaveral, Florida in June. It will include a full week&#8217;s vacation with Christian fun and fellowship, a chance to visit Disney World Cypress Gardens and NASA Space Center.Members of Boy Scout Troop 336 of the Centermoreland-Falls area won a fourth straight Back Country swimming championship in competition with other troops from the Dallas-Tunkhannock area. General Chairman is Mrs. William Wentz assisted by Mr. Jerome Cohen as cochairman.50 years ago - 1965Two senior members of the Lake-Lehman High School Band received the John Phillips Sousa Band Award at the annual spring concert on Saturday. The award was presented by Mr. Anthony Marchakitus, high school principal, in the presence of Mr. John Miliauskas, band director, to John Balavage and Marion Perkins. These students received the award for outstanding endeavors in music during their high school years.Miss Nancy Eggleston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alva Eggleston, Vernon, had the leading role in the Dramatic Club presentation at the Tunkhannock High School last Thursday evening. Nancy is a member of the senior class and has been active in band, tri-Hi-Y, serving as Vice-President, and the Future Teachers Club.Miss Esther J. Saxe, teacher in Dallas Junior High School, was honored Monday night by the Junior High School P.T.A. where she was awarded Honorary State Life Membership in the Pennsylvania Congress of Parents and Teachers. Life Memberships are given to persons who are outstanding in PTA work thorough contributions to the Hannah Kent Schaff Memorial Scholarship fund. 60 years ago - 1955Back Mountain YMCA will stage a &#8220;Bad Luck Dance&#8221; for Y-Teens at Lehman Fire Hall Friday. Chairman of the farmer dance is Janice Bronson, president of Y-Teen Club, assisted by Nancy Casterline, Beverly Major and Carolyn Marks.Ellen Walsh will reign as Queen of the May at Dallas-Franklin May Day exercises on Tuesday. Ellen was selected by members of the sophomore, junior and senior classes. Attending her will be Joan Swales, maid of honor; Jane Machett, Dorothy Race, Lois Martin, Sue Wileman, Mollie Carey, Marilyn Condon, Barbara Cheney and Eleanor Elenchik.70 years ago - 1945Mrs. Milford Shaver and Mrs. William Brown, co-chairmen of the Rummage Sale to be held by Dallas Women&#8217;s Club later this month, at Main Street, Luzerne, will be assisted by the following club members: Mrs. L.L. Richardson, Mrs. James Huston, Mrs. Fred Nicely, Mrs. Harry Ohlman, Mrs. Charles W. Lee, Mrs. nelson Thompson, Mrs. R.M. Bodycomb and Mrs. Robert VanHorn.Sometime between 10 A.M. and 1 P.M. on Tuesday while Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wilkes of Pikes Creek were visiting their daughter who is a patient in Wyoming Valley Hospital, someone stole six nice fat laying hens from their poultry yard. Mr. Wilkes fed and watered the chickens just before going to town. When he returned, they were gone. Chief Fred Swanson of Harveys Lake Police is of the opinion that local talent pulled the job.
