United Nations provides US with credibility

First Posted: 4/24/2014 It was with much sadness that I heard about the passing of former Wilkes-Barre Councilman and Mayor Lee Namey.
As a past president of South Wilkes-Barre Teeners, I will be forever grateful to Lee for securing the funds for the development of Christian Field. Without his support, there would not be the beautiful baseball field on Gordon Avenue, where hundreds of young people ages 13 through 16 had the opportunity to play the great American pastime: baseball.
He was instrumental in having the field named after Ed and Marie Christian, the founders of Teener League Baseball. There were some objections; Lee spoke up and related all the good these two people did concerning the youth of the area.
Lee prevailed, whether speaking at our annual awards dinner, or helping in any way for the youth of South Wilkes-Barre. Rest in peace, Lee.
