First Posted: 8/28/2014 SCRANTON &#8212; A man from Scranton was indicted by a federal grand jury for sex trafficking of a minor by setting up meetings with clients at motels in Luzerne and Lackawanna counties, according to the U.S. Attorney&#8217;s Office.
Sean Cantelmo, 28, allegedly conspired with others to coerce a teen girl to engage in prostitution and illegal sexual activity from February through May.
The indictment issued Tuesday alleges Cantelmo used a cell phone to post advertisements for escort services involving the teen girl on a website and rented motel rooms in Luzerne and Lackawanna counties to facilitate the prostitution activities, U.S. Attorney Peter Smith stated.
Cantelmo is charged with conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of children by force and coercion and sex trafficking of children by force.
The charges stem from an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations and state police.
The sex trafficking of children by force and coercion and conspiracy charges are each punishable by a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a possible maximum sentence of life in prison.
