WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A Hazleton Area School District security officer charged with having an ongoing sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student pleaded guilty in Luzerne County Court on Wednesday.Carl J. Stempert, 36, of North Wyoming Street, Hazleton, pleaded guilty to a corruption of minors charge before Judge Michael Vough.Vough said Stempert will be sentenced on July 2.According to the criminal complaint filed by state police at Hazleton:A 17-year-old girl told a city detective she and Stempert became friends that progressed to a sexual relationship that lasted from October 2013 to July 2014. She claimed she would meet Stempert at the Dorrance Exit off Interstate 81, and that he would give her rides to Luzerne County Community College in Nanticoke, where they attended emergency medical technician classes together.She told police Stempert asked her to be his girlfriend, telling her he was having marital problems and was going to divorce his wife to start a new life with her, the complaint says.State police said in the complaint the girl reported her first sexual experience with Stempert was on Oct. 30 in his pickup truck off a trail near Sand Springs and state Route 309. On other occasions, Stempert would take her to a trail off the Dorrance Exit and to an abandoned house he owned on North Manhattan Court in Hazleton to engage in sexual relations, according to the complaint.She told state police that she and Stempert would have sex at least once a week from December 2013 to March 2014, the complaint says.Stempert was a security guard at the Hazleton Area Academy of Science School, where the girl was a student.
