Abbey Murphy, a junior at Crestwood High School, won the Pennsylvania State Championship in Accounting I at the 64th annual Pennsylvania Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference held in April in Hershey. Abbey competed against more than 100 accounting students from across the state. As a result of the state championship, Murphy will be representing Pennsylvania in the Accounting I event at the 2015 FBLA National Leadership Conference to be held June 29-July 2 in Chicago. Murphy is a member of the Key Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Math Club, National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. She is also a letter man for the varsity basketball and softball teams.Nicholas Stavinski, Bear Creek Township, is the recipient of the 2015 Kimberly Bigg-Keil Memorial Scholarship from The Bear Creek Foundation. Stavinski is a senior at James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre. The official scholarship will be presented during the school&#8217;s annual Class Day ceremony on June 4. Stavinski graduated from eighth grade at Bear Creek Community Charter School and is a member of the National Honor Society. He is active in the Coughlin Key Club and German Club and has volunteered numerous hours at the Bear Creek Preserve, his church and for many other community and school-related events. Stavniski plans on attending the University of Scranton in the fall to pursue a degree in pharmacy. The Bear Creek Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support the Bear Creek Community Charter School and facilitate educational and other activities for the community. The scholarship bears the name of Kimberly Biggs-Keil, an educator, community activist and one of the founding members of the Bear Creek Community Charter School.
