First Posted: 5/5/2014 KINGSTON &#8212; Council discussed complaints about a local business and the status of the West Side Landfill during Monday night&#8217;s council meeting.
Mercer Avenue resident John Macko complained that since K&B Auto began operations at the corner of Mercer Avenue and Bennett Street, parking conditions and neighborhood tranquility have deteriorated.
Macko said mechanics at the business utilize sidewalks and off-street parking for business purposes. He also complained of excessive noise and fumes, taking care to differentiate K&B from other businesses in the area who he maintains have always been good neighbors.
Municipal Administrator Paul Keating acknowledged that the complaints made by Macko echo those made by other residents in the area. He said a code enforcement officer had been to the location and the business&#8217; owners had been &#8220;less than cooperative with police.&#8221;
He said a meeting would be held with the chief of police to discuss further measures.
In other business, Keating announced a study to see what can be done with the unused West Side Landfill in Plymouth Township.
Kingston, along with Plymouth and several other West Side communities comprise an authority that governs the site, but a lack of funding has prevented them from doing anything with it.
The site is frequently trespassed upon as it is unfenced and unguarded. Plymouth Township, where the entirety of the property is located, has no police department.
A grant proposal drafted by Keating has gained traction due in large part to hefty support from state Sen. John Yudichak. A $50,000 study will now be conducted as to the feasibility of doing something with the land in question.
The next regular council meeting is on June 2 at 7 p.m.
