The Monarchs swept all the matches, posting a 5-0 victory over FDU-Florham.
George Parkhurst and Tony Bevevino both scored victories in their singles matches. The two then teamed up in doubles to grab the victory.
King&#8217;s improved to 13-4 and will host rival Wilkes at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Cougars drop Freedom opener
Misericordia opened the Freedom Conference championships with a 9-1 loss to Manhattanville.
Sam Hare hit a solo home run for the Cougars and Megan Yurko added a hit.
Misericordia (23-14) will play an elimination game against FDU-Florham on Saturday at 9 a.m.
King&#8217;s splits pair in tourney
Karissa Kross tossed a complete-game two hitter as King&#8217;s used a balanced offensive attack to post an 8-1 victory over FDU-Forham in the opening round of the Freedom Conference Tournament.
King&#8217;s then fell to Manhattanville 7-6 in the second round and will be forced to play an elimination game.
In the first game, King&#8217;s scored three runs in the first inning and four in the fifth to seal the win.
In the second game, Amanda Cardone led King&#8217;s by going 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Maggie Gola and Erin Beane were both 2-for-4.
King&#8217;s will play Saturday at 11 a.m. against the winner of the Misericordia-FDU-Florham game.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Cougars land seven on all-Freedom team
Seven members of Misericordia&#8217;s baseball team, including Pitcher of the Year Ryan Dorosh, were named to the All-Freedom Conference Team.
Dorosh was joined on first team by second baseman Kyle Lindsay and outfielder Mike Comerford.
Pitchers Tim Burek and Corey Lee both earned second team honors along with third baseman Chris Boroch. Shortstop Kyle Seawards earned honorable mention.
Three Colonels selected to all-Freedom team
Three Wilkes standouts were named to the All-Freedom Conference team.
Relief pitcher Matt Kaster, first baseman Stephen Ruch and second basemen Bobby Schappell were all selected as honorable mentions.
COLLEGE MEN&#8217;S TRACK
Tirro leads Cougars at MAC
Misericordia&#8217;s Luigi Tirro finished eighth in the high jump at the MAC Track and Field Championships at Widener. Tirro&#8217;s jump was 1.73 meters.
Jarrett Higley, Mikael Hause, Eric Deignan and Jeremy Osko were fifth in the 3,200 relay (8:01.76).
COLLEGE WOMEN&#8217;S TRACK
MU&#8217;s Ward wins high jump
Ashlee Ward won the high jump to lead the Cougars on the second day of the MAC Championships.
Ward won the event for the fourth consecutive year with a jump of 1.72 meters.
