Two Jackson Township residents are representative of the opposing views. Mike Warner is a Lake-Lehman school board candidate and member of Taxes No, a group which doesn&#8217;t want the county to use public money to build and maintain the arena. Former supervisor Joe Stager is on the other side, after hearing a presentation by Representative Kevin Blaum and Atty. Anthony Lupas, and now supports the project.Wyoming Seminary recently recognized the Most Valuable Players from winter sports teams with the presentation of trophies at a school assembly. Athletic Director Gary Vanderburg presented trophies to senior Nick Mahler of Dallas, boys&#8217; swimming; and junior Kristy Kozlek of Shavertown, girls swimming.30 years ago - 1985Chris Brown, Andy Flint, David Holdredge, Kevin Loeffler, David Podehl and David Seidel received their &#8220;God and Country&#8221; awards Sunday at St. Paul&#8217;s Lutheran Church, Shavertown. The past several months the boys were involved in making a family tree and adopting a grandparent. In addition, much Bible work was done and the boys acted out their favorite stories at a &#8220;Family Night.&#8221;Carson D. Gramely III, of Harveys Lake Boy Scout Troop 331, received his Eagle Scout Award during a candlelight ceremony held at the Monroe Township Community Building last week. Carson has eight skill awards and 23 merit badges. Willy Cadwalader, Lake-Lehman; and Sandy Dicton, Lake-Lehman.40 years ago - 1975Patrick McGough, RD 2, Dallas, was awarded a bus safety award last Wednesday at a ceremony in Harrisburg by Governor Shapp. The award presentation came at the annual &#8220;Driver of Distinction&#8221; ceremony sponsored by the Pennsylvania Bus Association and the Pennsylvania School Bus Association. Awards were presented to 18 drivers from throughout the state who had collectively amassed 15 million miles of safe driving over a period of 331 years. McGough, a driver for the Frank Martz Coach Company, has driven 1,680,000 &#8220;safe&#8221; miles over a period of 21 years.Cub Pack 281 held its monthly meeting Friday night at the Dallas Township Elementary School. All cubs participated in the Olympic try outs which consisted of five individual athletic events. Events were conducted according to age level and winners of each division were presented with gold medal awards. Present were Barbara Rood, Mary Charles and Margaret McHose, Grave Harvey, Nancy Boston, Ray Ann Harvey, and Clara Shaw. 70 years ago - 1945David Pascoe, seventeen-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Pascoe of Carverton, suffered severe burns on the chest and right hand Monday evening when he touched a wire hanging over the light wires across the road from his home. Alerted by the neighborhood children, Mr. Pascoe succeeded in releasing David from the wire and took him across the road. Having not yet removed his rubber boots from work, and pulling the sleeves of his denim jacket over his hands, he jerked the boy free. After being examined by Dr. Hazlett in Wyoming, David was sent home to bed.Movies playing at the Shaver Theater, Shavertown, included &#8220;Laura&#8221; starring Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews and Clifton Webb; &#8220;Alaska&#8221; featuring Kent Taylor, Margaret Lindsay and John Carradine; and &#8220;Crime by Night&#8221; starring Jane Wyman and Faye Emerson.
