Letter to the Editor: Wilkes University choral groups deliver ‘marvelous’ performance, writer says

Sister Eleace King, director of the McGlynn Center, along with the children, teens and volunteers of the center, extend their gratitude to those who attended the April 8 event at Genetti&#8217;s Hotel and to those who sent donations in honor of Sister Miriam Stadulis, founder of the McGlynn Center, and Betty Griesmer, a 25-year volunteer.The McGlynn Center is an after-school program assisting at-risk children and teens who live in the Boulevard Townhomes and Mineral Springs Village. Both locations will benefit from the donations received from this event; children in the summer program will be able to go on field trips, and young participants will continue be assisted by volunteers with programs to enrich their lives. Since the center opened, not one child attending the Learning Center has ever been before the juvenile justice system.Sister Miriam Stadulis retired from the McGlynn Center in 2012. Since her retirement, she volunteers at the McAuley House for homeless mothers and their children, but she continues to advocate for the children at the McGlynn Center who will always be near and dear to her heart, which is why Sister Miriam insisted this event be a fundraiser for the center.We would like to thank Gus Genetti and his staff who provided a spectacular buffet, a complimentary beverage and set up for the evening.Our thanks to radio personality Frankie Warren, of Magic 93 who so graciously MC&#8217;d our event. He is a blessing to our community and has shown this with his love in helping so many nonprofit organizations.Thanks to the 170 guests who attended; you made this a night to remember. A silent auction was held with artwork contributed by local artists, and there was an array of gift baskets filled with beautiful treasures thanks to the volunteers who donated them.Our thanks to Bobby Hughes, guest speaker, whose life was changed through the love, mentoring and guidance he received at the McGlynn Center. Bobby went on to receive his bachelor of science degree from Penn State University and is the executive director of EPCAMR, an abandoned mine-reclamation organization.Our thanks to the Besecker family for their generous donation from the CC Besecker Collection for the Arts, in memory of their daughter Cecilia, who died at the age of 22 in 2012.A special thanks to Misericordia University and The Luzerne Foundation for their roles in helping McGlynn get this event together.
