WEST PITTSTON &#8212; Council approved the yearly Traffic Signal Maintenance Proposal with Kuharchik Construction, Inc. at the regular monthly meeting held May 5.West Pittston Borough Manager Savino Bonita said the purpose of the agreement is ensure that if something were to happen to one of the traffic signals throughout the borough, that traffic signal would still work property.Resignations from part-time police officers Leonard Lombardo and Michael Haley were also accepted during the meeting, as was the resignation of Eugene J. Chikowski from the UCC Board of Appeals, effective April 1. Chikowski has served on the board since 2009.Council President Jim Rose wished Chikowski well in his future endeavors.&#8220;I would just like to thank Mr. Chikowski for his years of service to the borough, and we wish him well in his retirement,&#8221; he said.In other business:&#8226; Council approved the execution of the Memorandum of Agreement between West Pittston Borough, Luzerne County and Pa. State Historic Preservation Office regarding the acquisition and demolition of flood-damaged properties throughout West Pittston.&#8226; Awarded the bid for sale of a 2009 Ford Victoria Police Interceptor for $401 and a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria for $301 to Kevin Lescavage.&#8226; Authorized borough solicitor Atty. Mark Buffalino to prepare and advertise an ordinance, or ordinances, for consideration establishing, setting and regulating parking of vehicles upon any streets during certain hours and days of snow and ice removal as well as street sweeping.&#8226; Tabled the handicapped parking permit application for 323 Wyoming Ave. in accordance with the provisions of the Handicapped Parking Permit Ordinance to be discussed at a later meeting.&#8226; Adopted a resolution to enter into a Street Sweeping Agreement with PennDOT.&#8226; Authorized borough engineers to advertise for bids for CDBG Disaster Recovery Funds for the purpose of being prepared for any other natural disasters similar to that of the flood of 2011.The next West Pittston council meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2 at the borough building, 555 Exeter Ave.
