20 years ago - 1995Members of the GFWC Harveys Lake Women&#8217;s Club&#8217;s elementary school writing contest were recently honored at a special meeting of the club. Honorees were Jamie Desiderio, Susann Brooks, Gregory Piazza and Donora Hillard.Girl Scouts from Troop 610, Sweet Valley, who are working on earning their Cross Generation badge, recently visited with residents at the Meadows Nursing Center, met with residents in a &#8220;sharing session,&#8221; sang camp songs and learned about Candy Striping volunteering at the center. Attending were: Kalyca Stransky, Amanda Shaver, Brandy Gross, Katie Kiwak, Andrea Steele, Joy Emmett, Bianca Sauceda, Dawn Newell and Jan Emmette.Wrestlers from the Back Mountain Wrestling Club recently participated in the Middle Atlantic Wrestling Association Regional Tournament at Shamokin High School. Wrestlers who qualified through this tournament and will compete at Eastern Nationals in Salsbury, Md. are: Michael Stolarick, Bantam 52, 1st place; Andrew Shaw, Midget 54, 2nd place; and Matt Davis, Bantam 73, 3rd place.30 years ago - 1985The Dallas Area Federated Women&#8217;s Club held their monthly meeting last week at which time Jane Gritman, Education Chairman, announced the winners of the club&#8217;s Book Scholarship. Winners were Kim Rollman and Stanley Koprowski; both are students at Dallas Senior High School.The Dallas Junior High School Choruses, directed by Mrs. Florence Hughes Sherwood, will present the annual Spring Concert tonight in the Junior High School Auditorium. Chorus members include Becki Nicely, Stephanie Pellam, Nichol Whitesell, Shelby Girard, Deanna Sutton, Michelle Sheno, Rosemary Hometchko, Dwin Campbell, Tracy Baines, Laura Dover, Cindy O&#8217;Brien and Karen O&#8217;Connell.Christine Cavalari, a senior at Dallas High School, was presented with a $100 Savings Bond by the Luzerne County Association of Educational Secretaries, of which Dallas School District belongs. The award is presented each year to a business student by the schools that are members of the LCAES.40 years ago - 1975A spring tea whose theme was a bicentennial 1776 celebration was sponsored by the members of the Durbin Sunday School Class last weekend at Dallas United Methodist Church. The ladies were garbed in the attire of the colonial period. Mary Mohr presided as some facts of the history of 1776 were read in the poem &#8220;The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere.&#8221;Sophomore Steve Skammer pitched the first no-hit game of the season in the Wyoming Valley baseball league to lead the Mountaineers to an 11-0 win over Wyoming Seminary. The outstanding sophomore struck out 12 and walked only two to collect his fourth win of the season with no losses.Members of Junior Scout Troop 630 toured the offices of the Dallas Post last week as part of the requirement for their Community Service Badge. Participants included Carol Janes, Kim Hoads, Perri Nejib, Betsy Snyder, Bonnie Kester, Beverly Atherholt, Linda Konek, Maggie Vojeko, Margie Zikon, Vicki Martin, Pat Zikon and Cathy Zikon. 50 years ago - 1965Douglas Munn, Dallas, has been elected president of the newly formed Park Neighborhood Free Methodist Church Men&#8217;s Fellowship. Mr. Munn, commercial artist, has as outside interests hunting, fishing and golf.Cub Scouts from Lehman Pack 241 toured the Dallas Post plant on Thursday, being introduced to press camera, newspaper typewriter, stuffed bobcats and birds, typesetting machines, and printing presses. A menu that will please everyone has been set up by Bob Parry, dinner chairman, who guarantees that all will be served no matter when the dinner ends.60 years ago - 1955Lee Ohlman, junior at Wyoming Seminary, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ohlman, Machell Avenue, will be awarded his Eagle Scout emblem at a dinner Wednesday night at Dallas Methodist Church. Lee is the third Eagle Scout for the troop, joining Stefan Hellersperk and John Sheehan in that category.Brownie Troop 163 of Noxen enjoyed their birthday party and investiture ceremony last Tuesday at the VFW Hall.
