Outpouring of sympathy follows grim discovery

HANOVER TWP. &amp;ndash; In a brief reorganization meeting Monday, Hanover Area board members unanimously voted John Pericci as president.
Pericci has been on the board three years and previously served as the board&amp;rsquo;s vice president under Anthony Gagliardi.
Pericci was replaced as vice president by current secretary Evelyn Evans, while she was replaced as secretary by Lorraine Heydt. Both of those votes were also unanimous.
In comments after the vote, the new president said the district would have to meet major financial challenges in the coming years but he was sure that the current board was up to that task.
The district has set a budget work session for 6 p.m. Dec. 23, a special budget work session on Jan. 6, and regular work session and monthly meetings for Jan. 10 and 13.
In the scheduled December meeting that took place immediately after the close of the reorganization meeting, the board approved payments to attorney George Shovlin, at $3,048 for services Oct. 26 through Nov. 30, and $1282.50 for various invoices to the firm of Sweet, Stevens, Katz and Williams LLP. No explanation was given for the latter bills, but the company specializes in legal advice for school districts and administrators. 
The board also turned down a request from the St. George Foundation for an abatement on a school property tax bill for a property on Charles Street, Hanover Township.
Although the district had approved a previous abatement for 2010 bills, the district believed that the 2009 request had not met the requirements for a timely appeal of the bill.
The amount in question was believed to be about $700, school officials noted after the meeting.
