Five candidates team up in field of nine for Pittston Area School Board race

Marcellus Shale to fuel compressed natural gas filling station near Tunkhannock

A third compressed natural gas filling station is planned for Northeastern Pennsylvania with the help of a grant from the Commonwealth Financing Authority.Southwestern Energy NGV Services LLC will build the station open to the public along state Route 6 in Tunkhannock Township, Wyoming County using natural gas produced in the Marcellus Shale.The CFA said it awarded a $725,503 grant for the project estimated to cost $1.8 million. The station will be located adjacent to Mountain Energy Service&#8217;s water pumping station and the company&#8217;s fleet of vehicles will serve as the anchor vendor for Southwestern.The station was one of seven Alternative and Clean Energy program projects funded by the CFA and announced by Gov. Tom Wolf on Thursday. The grants totalled more than $8.12 million and the loans $1.74 million.Details on the construction were not available.Two other stations are planned in Lackawanna and Luzerne counties.Last year former Gov. Tom Corbett announced Clean Energy Fuels Corp. of Newport Beach, California was awarded a $1.17 million ACE grant to build a station on Armstrong Road in Pittston Township to sell compressed natural gas and liquefied natural gas to the public. The site is near Interstate 81 and the CenterPoint industrial park that&#8217;s serviced daily by tractor trailers. The station will look to serve long and short haul trucks as more and more companies are adding natural gas fueled trucks to their fleets.The third station will be built on Drinker Street in Dunmore by Commonwealth Energy Group. It will be located near Interstates 81 and 380 and 84. The company plans to build similar fueling centers throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
