LEHMAN TWP. &#8212; A tax increase for Wyoming County residents is included in the proposed final budget for the 2015-16 school-year the Lake-Lehman School board voted 8-0 to adopt Monday.The $29 million spending plan includes a 6.87 percent millage increase, raising the rate from 47.33 to 54.21 mills.A mill is a $1 tax on every $1,000 of assessed property value.Board member Mark Kornoski was absent.There is no change to the millage for Luzerne County properties, said Business Manager Albert Melone, pointing out the proposed budget doesn&#8217;t reflect an expected increase in state subsidies, which he expects will be around $150,000 to $200,000. He noted that the millage increase for Wyoming County is a result of &#8220;rebalancing,&#8221; which takes into effect market and assessed property values of the two counties.Melone also pointed out that for the last four years, Wyoming County has had a decrease in the millage rates while Luzerne County rates had increased. He said the proposed budget is not &#8220;set in stone,&#8221; and will be revisited in June after the state subsidies come in.In other business, the board voted 7-1 to renew the food service contract with The Nutrition Group for the 2015-16 school-year. The contract includes a 10-cent increase in the breakfast and lunch prices and an increase in ala carte prices. Board member Drew Salko voted against the renewal, noting that although he is very satisfied with the quality of food and the service provided by the company, he doesn&#8217;t agree with the increase.The board also recognized the following state grade level winners of the Zaner-Bloser National Handwriting Contest: Gabby Shonis, Michael Ford, Marissa Brdaric, Allison Vitanovec, and Gracie James, all students of Lehman-Jackson Elementary School. James was also a semi-finalist in the Grand National level competition. Gianna Dominick, a second grade student at Lake-Noxen, also was a state grade level winner.Lake-Lehman Junior/Senior High School student Madison Stambaugh was recognized for winning a Congressional Arts Competition. Her work will be on display at the capitol building in Harrisburg. The board also recognized student Micaela Payne for winning WVIA&#8217;s Top 10 Artist of the Week.The board appointed the following assistant coaches for the 2015-2016 school-year:Nathan Schlichter, varsity boys basketball at a stipend of $4,682; Richard Colorusso, varsity boys basketball at $4,682; Christopher Ushinski, junior high boys basketball at $3,136; Mark Lacey, boys basketball, unpaid; Janene Kasarda, junior high girls basketball, $3,136; Sherry Metz, junior high girls basketball, $3,136; Kathryn Pelleschi, varsity girls basketball, $4,682; Jennifer Purdy, girls basketball, unpaid; Janice O&#8217;Brien, varsity swim and dive, $1,560; William Weber, varsity wrestling, $4,682; Brian Meehan, junior high wrestling, $3,136; Roger Legg, wrestling, unpaid; Matthew Raczkowski, wrestling, unpaid; Reginall Gensel, wrestling, unpaid and Michael Tereska, wrestling, unpaid. Next month&#8217;s combined Committee-of-the-Whole and regular monthly meeting for general purposes will be held on at 7 p.m. Monday, June 22.
