Holy Redeemer holds off Mid Valley to move to District 2-2A semifinals

Jenna Lipowski ripped a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning and Miranda Bohn pitched two hitless innings of relief as Nanticoke Area came back for a dramatic 2-1 victory over Pittston Area in a District 2 Class 3A softball quarterfinal game Wednesday at Nanticoke Area.The victory sends the Trojans to a district semifinal game against Valley View at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Valley View.Abbey Bradigan gave Pittston Area a 1-0 lead with a run-scoring single in the first inning, and that&#8217;s the way the score stayed through five innings as Patriots pitcher Taylor Baloga and Nanticoke Area starter Leandra Ramos battled in a pitchers&#8217; duel.But Nanticoke Area gained some life in the bottom of the sixth, putting together three of their four hits against Baloga to sneak away with victory.Rachel Roccograndi and Kiera Brown both singled and, with one out, Lipowski powered her double to send them both sprinting home. It was the only extra-base hit of the game.Ramos scattered three hits and struck out four over her five innings of work, then Bohn picked up the victory in the circle by finishing up with two scoreless innings.Wyoming Area 5, North Pocono 1Emily Wolfgang ripped a two-run triple as the Warriors scored five times in the first inning and took down the Trojans in a District 2 Class 3A quarterfinal game.All the game&#8217;s runs were scored in the opening inning.The victory set up a showdown between Wyoming Area and Berwick in a district semifinal game at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Wyoming Area.Bree Bednarski started the Warriors rally with a leadoff triple in the bottom of the first inning, and Wolfgang later tripled to drive home two runs.
