First Posted: 11/8/2014 OWINGS MILLS, Md. &#8212; After another sluggish first half on Saturday, Wilkes attempted a valiant second-half comeback against Stevenson.
But Stevenson wasn&#8217;t going to let it happen.
Wilkes cut the Mustangs&#8217; lead to three points in the fourth quarter, but Stevenson then went on a 16-point run to end the game and defeat the Colonels 33-14 at Mustang Stadium.
Trailing 17-0 in the fourth quarter, Wilkes (2-7, 2-6) tightened the deficit to 17-14 after a pair of touchdowns.
First, PJ Incremona (18 rushes, 49 yards) capped an eight-play, 51-yard drive with a 1-yard TD plunge to get the Colonels on the board trailing 17-6 with 11:50 remaining.
After forcing Stevenson (6-3, 5-3) top punt on its next drive, the Colonels got a quick strike from Ryan Dailey (214 passing yards) to Jeremy Hartman (7 receptions, 78 yards) for a 48-yard touchdown to pull within three points with 6:39 left in the game.
The ensuing kickoff was returned to by the Mustangs to the Wilkes 9. Two plays later, Stevenson increased its lead to 24-14.
After a Wilkes four-and-out on its next drive, Stevenson needed just two plays once again to get another touchdown and put the game out of reach with a 31-14 lead with 3:22 left.
The Colonels will now look to rebound and get ready for their last game of the season next week then they host Wilkes-Barre city rival King&#8217;s in the Mayor&#8217;s Cup. The game will be played at 12 p.m. at Wilkes&#8217; Schmidt Stadium.
