HONESDALE: St. Padre Pio Prayer Group will gather for its monthly devotions beginning at 2 p.m. with exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Sunday, Aug. 31, at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 416 Church Street.
The Rev. William J.P. Langan, host pastor and spiritual director, will lead the devotions, which includes the recitation of the rosary, a reading from sacred scripture and spiritual reflection.
The sacrament of the anointing of the sick will be administered to the seriously ill or those about to undergo surgery.
The Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be chanted at 3 p.m., followed by vespers and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, and closing with individual blessing with the relic of St. Pio.
MOUNTAIN TOP: Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 7768 Blue Ridge Trail, is hosting its annual picnic on Sunday, Aug. 24. The event begins with 10:30 a.m. worship in the pavilion. There will be hot dogs, hamburgers, side dishes and desserts available after the service. There will also be outdoor games, bingo and card games.
WEST PITTSTON: Christ&#8217;s Community Clothes Closet at The Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 317 Luzerne Ave., is closed for its seasonal change. It will reopen at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27. The fall operating hours will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Mondays and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesdays. The closet is open to the community without charge. Anyone wishing to donate gently used clothing can place it in the clothing shed in the church parking lot.

WILKES-BARRE: The Christian Women of Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Ave., will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, in the parish rectory. Hostesses are Monica Jendrzejewski and Jane Woytowich. Plans will be discussed for the annual turkey bingo in October. All women of the parish are invited.
WILKES-BARRE: Our Lady of Hope Parish is holding CCD registration for 2014-2015 after the 4 p.m. Mass on Saturday, Aug. 30, and after the 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Masses on Sunday, Aug. 31. The two-year preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation will begin this year and all students must register. Registration free is $20 per child and $35 for two or more children in the family.
CCD classes begin with the 9 a.m. children&#8217;s liturgy Mass on Sunday, Sept. 14. Backpacks will be blessed by the Rev. Terry, pastor. Students will proceed to the Parish Center after the Mass and will be escorted to their classrooms by their teachers.
