First Posted: 4/16/2014 I&#8217;m not sure if &#8220;The Village Voice&#8221; or &#8220;The Daily Worker&#8221; are still being printed, but &#8220;Mother Jones&#8221; and &#8220;Rolling Stone&#8221; are still active.
I mention this because I think the opinions of The Times Leader editorialist would fit with those liberal rags much better than with a newspaper that is supposed to reflect the ethos of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
One characteristic that all liberals share is a lack of sense of humor. They must always look for something to whine and cry the blues about. This was evident in the too serious overreaction to a harmless stunt proposed by the management of the local baseball team. As the editorialist beat his breast in abject indignation at a fun idea, he managed to denigrate the values of the 1950s.
Well, I&#8217;ll tell you, buddy, I went to high school in the &#8217;50s, and you don&#8217;t know what you missed. We had a sense of humor. We all faced the prospect of universal military service, and the possibility of nuclear war, but we didn&#8217;t feel as if we had to parse every statement people made to see if it passed the P.C. litmus test.
One last thing: We almost all had a chicken coop in our backyard. Oh, the horror!
