Shickshinny Class of 1954 hosts reunion

First Posted: 6/18/2014 WYOMING &#8212; Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas Judge Richard M. Hughes, III, will be the keynote speaker at the 236th anniversary ceremony of the Battle and Massacre of Wyoming, on July 4, at 10 a.m. at the Wyoming Monument National Historic Site, Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming.
The event is open to the public, free of charge, and tent covered seating is available in case of rain.
The annual event was begun in 1878 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Wyoming, the most significant Revolutionary War battle fought in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The event is sponsored by the Wyoming Commemorative Association.
Hughes is a graduate of Wyoming Seminary, Lafayette College and the Washington and Lee University School of Law. Following graduation from law school, he returned to Luzerne County to join his father in the firm of Hughes and Hughes.
After 25 years in private practice, Hughes was elected judge and is currently assigned to the civil division where he head the Orphans&#8217; Court.
Hughes and his wife, Ruth, have three children: Callie, Ellen and Richard IV.
The Wyoming Valley Band will begin their concert at 10 a.m.
