The kids here come off as perfectly reasonable; the adults are the problem &#8212; but even their efforts to separate the lovebirds are watered down. 100 mins. LEGO MOVIE 3D &#8212; A building-block box-office buster to the tune of nearly $70 million, this debut was second only to Jesus. Only &#8220;The Passion of the Christ&#8221; surpassed it. The bricks may be plastic, but the movie is not. It&#8217;s witty and unexpected, building the laughs brick by brick. Despite product placement galore, there is something refreshingly genuine about this movie and its message about believing in yourself and nurturing your creativity. 100 mins. LONE SURVIVOR &#8212; Some stories are best brought to screen as simply and purely as possible. This is especially true with Peter Berg&#8217;s expertly rendered account of a disastrous 2005 military operation in Afghanistan. 121 mins. THE MONUMENTS MEN &#8212;This is a roughly true/fictionally embellished account of the efforts of American arts scholars &#8212; drafted into the Army &#8212; to preserve the artistic patrimony of Europe from the scourge of combat and theft by the Germans.  PHILOMENA &#8212; Based on the 2009 investigative book &#8220;The Lost Son of Philomena Lee,&#8221; by Martin Sixsmith, about an Irish woman who, as a teenager, became pregnant during a fairground tryst. She was sent to a convent, where she endured a painful birth, then was forced to work in the laundry with other &#8220;fallen women&#8221; for years in virtual imprisonment. 98 mins.  RIDE ALONG &#8212; Joining the ranks of odd-couple police comedies, this delivers laughs over action, with loudmouthed funnyman Kevin Hart driving the hilarity. 100 mins. PG-13 for violence, sexual content and brief strong language. &#9830; &#9830; 1/2
ROBOCOP &#8212;Jose Padilha has updated the dystopia with some clever ideas and better acting while sanitizing any satire with video-game polish and sequel baiting. The smartest addition comes early, shifting the story to Tehran, where the global company OmniCorp has drones stopping and frisking in the streets. We&#8217;re introduced to this by talk-show host Pat Novak (Sam Jackson), who appears throughout the film, brazenly promoting Pentagon propaganda, trying to convince what he calls a bizarrely &#8220;robot-phobic&#8221; American public that OmniCorp drones can make the U.S. safer, too. 118 mins. THAT AWKWARD MOMENT &#8212; A chatty romantic comedy in the modern mode &#8212; rude, nude and crude &#8212; with some funny, writerly riffs on relationships and how to avoid them. 94 mins. R for sexual content and language throughout. &#9830; &#9830;
WINTER&#8217;S TALE &#8212; Mark Helprin&#8217;s 30-year-old fantasy novel saunters onto the screen as a lovely but slow and emotionally austere experience, a romantic weeper that shortchanges the romance and the tears. Colin Farrell stars as Peter, an orphan and a thief who grows up to be a second-story man, which is how he meets the beautiful but sickly Beverly (Jessica Brown Findlay of &#8220;Downton Abbey&#8221;). She&#8217;s dying of consumption; he&#8217;s smitten. 118 mins. PG-13 for violence and some sensuality. &#9830; &#9830;
