First Posted: 5/16/2014 The Times Leader&#8217;s recent article (&#8220;Study: Wage hike would boost fifth of area workers,&#8221; May 9) shows that people are fed up with low wages. In fact, recent polling by Quinnipiac University shows that 70 percent of Pennsylvania voters believe that the state should raise the minimum wage.
It&#8217;s time for our state Legislature to pass an increase of the minimum wage to at least $10.10 an hour. Hardworking Pennsylvanians are struggling daily to get by on low wages, and the state hasn&#8217;t had an increase in five years. The overwhelming majority of workers who would be helped by an increase are adults, and nearly six in 10 are women, many of whom are supporting children.
The rallies held across the state on May 8 show that there is strong support for an increase in the minimum wage. People know that it&#8217;s the right thing to do. It&#8217;s time for our elected officials to get on board and raise the minimum wage.
