Dallas man, 86, sentenced on child pornography charges

WILKES-BARRE &#8212; An 86-year-old man who admitted to child pornography charges was sentenced Tuesday to five years in the Intermediate Punishment Program, according to court papers.Edward W. Hartman, of Ridgeway Drive, Dallas, will spend the first six months of his sentence on house arrest, court papers say. He also must pay a $3,000 fine.Hartman pleaded guilty before Judge Joseph F. Sklarosky Jr. in February to 20 counts of possession of child pornography.Court papers indicate Hartman must register as a Tier III, lifetime sex offender. He also must attend sexual offender treatment and therapy, and avoid schools, parks, playgrounds, schools, libraries and any contact with minors.According to a criminal complaint, Hartman told police child pornography &#8220;intrigued&#8221; him, and said he&#8217;d been viewing it for 20 years.Police say Hartman allowed investigators to search his computer files without obtaining a search warrant, stating &#8220;he&#8217;s wrong and wants to put this behind him.&#8221;A forensic search of his laptop and electronic storage devices revealed more than 50 images of child pornography, as well as more than 600 images of child pornography that had been deleted, police say.
