Letter to the Editor: Let’s brainstorm ways to revive voter participation

On May 7, at 6:50 a.m., a man tried to break into my home through my front door, my window and my privacy gate leading to my yard. My son and I had to cower on our back porch while staying on the line with 911 until the police arrived.The man claimed to be looking for stolen items and was told by the officer that he had &#8220;the wrong house, buddy.&#8221; My son and I were treated like criminals, being questioned by the officer on scene. The man was left to drive off in his truck because &#8220;he apologized.&#8221;I posted my story on social media, the city of Wilkes-Barre&#8217;s Facebook page. The only person to reach out to me was Tony George. He took the time out of his day to meet with my husband and express genuine, heartfelt concern as to how this was handled.Less than 24 hours later, disorderly conduct charges were filed against the intruder. I am forever thankful and grateful to Tony; he gave us the much-needed acknowledgment, concern and closure to a terrifying incident.I ask the citizens of Wilkes-Barre to put yourself in my shoes. If this happened to you, wouldn&#8217;t you want a mayor who puts your concerns and safety first? Please, vote for Tony George on Election Day. Shelby A. SudnickWilkes-Barre
