First Posted: 9/16/2014 WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Attorneys representing a Hanover Township woman accused of criminal homicide in the death of her 78-year-old aunt expect to resolve the case with a guilty plea, her defense attorney said.
Isis Ann Brown, charged in August with killing Dorothy Koreny, appeared today for a formal arraignment before Judge Michael Vough.
She is scheduled to plead in Luzerne County Court on Oct. 23. following testimony from a psychologist, according to her attorney Thomas Cometa.
Cometa said he and his co-counsel, Nancy Prescott are in &#8220;active negotiations&#8221; with prosecutors Jenny Rogers and Chester Dudick of the district attorney&#8217;s office, and testimony from Dr. Richard Fischbein, a Kingston psychologist, will be essential in a possible agreement.
Depending on Fischbein&#8217;s availability, Cometa added, the hearing may be rescheduled for a later date.
According to charges filed in late July, Koreny told a paramedic that Brown pushed her over a porch railing before pummeling her with ashtrays and ceramic figurines.
Koreny died at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township on April 8.
An autopsy found she died from traumatic head injuries, and the Luzerne County Coroner&#8217;s Office ruled her death a homicide.
Brown has been in custody since March 28 when she was charged with aggravated assault, however that charge was withdrawn following her aunt&#8217;s death.
